So I did the freezer. Options Mark as New Bookmark Subscribe Subscribe to RSS Feed Highlight Print Email to a Friend Report Apr 5, 2008 Do a search on NewEgg.com or NCIX.comI have two HDD Enclosures A clicking sound, for example, is suggestive of a malfunctioning head, i.e. I held my breath and got my external hard drive plugged in and I swear on my childrens lives I got almost two hours of it working.
There are so many... It worked like a charm! However, I don't think I would even try it because I'm not sure what effects it might have on the LCD screen or the battery. Had to try it 3 times, but last time I connected power to drive, it came up, got all the data off. Western Digital If that's not an option and you're worried about installing software on an already shaky drive, you can also use an Explorer addon called TeraCopy, which can perform a quality check The problem with freezing is that it is a path of no return.
The people who read the forums do not want to wade through page after page of thanks to everyone who has contributed.
Do take it seriously, but also try to exclude some of the more simple to fix culprits before you fork out hundreds of dollars to a so-called specialist. Did plugging it into the under-amped cord cause it to head crash, or could it have been something else? My recommendation is to go with a reputable company. Nothing although when i take out the hard drive it now makes the bing bong noise as if it's recognising there's something there which it didn't do before. If you want to copy files manually, only copy one set of files at a time! About half an hour later, the hard drive failed audibly and the laptop wouldn’t boot anymore. For those of you that may not know, the heads ride above the surface of the platter at a predetermined distance. Three hours later, I took it out and tried to get it to work.

I plug in USB enclosure without the hard drive, nothing is being detected. Should I replace the PCB board? I'm still able to browse the hard drive, and according to defraggler, the hard drive remains healthy and only 1% is fragmented. Lots of people have used this technique; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but not because of heads crashing into ice formations on the platters.
