I have 1 question/concern on this: You used an example here the drives sdb and sdc, so you have no conflict to do it. Raid 1 you can loose one drive and still keep working. So, when one of them fails, the data is safe on the other. The drive spins at a certain speed, and the drive head moves back and forth to access the data. Nonetheless do it.
