Sound Blaster Or Ac97' ?
Now, we've got plenty of cycles to spare even when playing intense games. As such dont expect any framerate gains as its all going to go onto the CPU anyway. Because I only use a sh!tting pair of stereo speakers, I hardly notice the difference in sound quality/processing time between the AC97 and the SBLive. My new computer has the Intel AC'97 sound chip. This is problem for me because I record music to minidisc using the fibre optic out and record real time (waiting for the 1 GB minidisc to upgrade to net md). I too am happily using the onboard sound on the MSI KT3. The new DOSferatu is Jeff Leyda (Flopper, Throttle).

At least the live has some dedicated sound hardware, although EAX is not h/w accelerated AFAIK, so can lower frame rates if you enable it. (That's why I went Audigy 2 I think/hope that I did it properly without trying to be too assertive.

Manufacturers don't always use hifi components in onboard sound. So uh... Don't ask me why.

I think it only supported up to ICH 5, but this subject has gotten me interested in doing an update to it, and I have access to a few newer boards It's very easy to forget even libraries credits when caught up in the midst of lots of code. AC97 outputs bitstream throught the fiber out as long as your dvd decoding software supports it. But after I got my little A7V8X, that changed...

and ICH5 programs, I found the wav files (e.g. georgpotthast has absolutely taken my work to a new level-it's more robust and supports way more devices than mine ever did-kudos to him for this.
