  2. Both are signs of a bad one...the top should be flat.
  3. But the same problem with 2 different mobos + cpu combinations is fishy.
  4. At different points I was finally able to power down the hd from the button (even though I don't think the hd was spinning - either of them).

I forced a shutdown and when i powered it up i had no display (although the monitor is fine) but the cpu beeps constantly. I have just ordered a new one for this machine from tigerdirect at a very reasonable price. It will not boot up. So layouts probably differ; I'll give the solution I found for others who may have the Intel board and maybe it can work on the AMD also.

Instead, I decided to pull the power chord in the back and drain all juice to the motherboard. Emachines D620 Will Not Power On Ask ! It might be worth trying a higher wattage PSU though. what you need is a Micro ATX socket A type mother board you can order one from emachines for about $160 or you could try ebay. Start a new discussion instead. Emachines E442 Black Screen I'd suggest the old style that goes in the lower PCI slots (mine are white sockets)...

The first place I'd look would be to the left of the CPU socket, where there should be a row of at least three of them. Nothing is coming over the monitor nothing is happening as far as the boot up process. now make sure you have a good solid place to put the motherboard on ,,not in the computer because it will break the board circut vains when flexing. Please understand that Im a college student (read: poor) and dont have cash to drop on a new PC, not to mention the important files on my old harddrive.
