I think I solved my problem. we just got some new computers that had a muticard reader in them. was using the external drive again for a week or so having maybe another 30gb back on it and now it won't come up in my computers, but as said above how can I fix the problem. More about the author
Update: I've tested two USB single slot card readers with identical USB serials: XP-SP2 fully patched and Vista where able to handle this at least on first view.
